Go Freakin' Colts, & What a Resumé!
Go
Freakin’ Colts
For the
last handful of years, I have been rooting for the
Indianapolis Colts to reach and conquer the Super
Bowl. Yeah, I’m technically (well, at least loosely)
a San Fran Fan, but… Well, they suck, and they don’t
deserve to win. Manning and the Colts, however, do.
Which is why I have been pulling for them. They have
been playing a great brand of fast-moving,
high-powered football rather effectively the last few
years. Yes, they’ve been plagued by the Playoff
Choke®, but if they could only overcome that, I
thought… And this year, they did. It just so happens
that it coincided with their worst offensive year in
the last 3, too. Go figure.
And what an exciting game to watch, to. Go freakin’
Colts! I mean, they were down 21-3. 21-3, y’all. And
they came back to win it! They didn’t have ONE LEAD
the WHOLE GAME, until exactly 59 minutes into the
fray. I don’t hate the Pats, but MAN did I almost
hate them for the last couple of years. Sweet revenge
then, watching them lose to the Colts in the AFC
Championship.
We’re
Interested in your Resumé
So last
week I posted my resumé to both monster.com and
careerbuilder.com. I have gotten a number of hits, a
few handfuls of emails, and even a phone call or two.
Nice. Except for one damn thing. All of the emails
and calls have this or something like this in them:
“...in the Inland Empire Area.” Not so nice.
For those that don’t know, the Inland Empire (IE) is
my So Cal area. Which by and large sucks large
circular objects often found on donkeys. What makes
this very irritating is that I have put on both sites
in my preferences that my target locale is Eureka,
CA, not this place. I guess to some extent I’m happy
that I have gotten some interest, I just wish it was
from people in the right area.
Monster.com seems to have more job listings in that
area, so I’ll probably concentrate on that website
more so than careerbuilder. But both will be
maintained.
...Your
Resumé that looks kinda Crappy
What I
found depressing about both sites was the formats for
uploaded resumés. Microsuck Word 97 or later. What?
No pdf support? Are you freaking joking? And believe
me, both do a wonderful job of farcing up my
formatting, AFTER Word had done the same. See, I did
it in Pages because even though that program is not
as polished as Word, it is typically a LOT easier to
get done the things I need to accomplish. In fact,
this blog is typed in Pages, then copied to the blog.
So I had to convert it to Word. Which is a bit like
asking a monkey with no arms high on crack, locked in
a padded room with only a toothbrush and bananas, to
paint the Mona Lisa. In under an hour. And, those are
about the results I both got and expected. So then I
had to re-work the formatting to get the desired
result; a real P.I.T.A. That reminded me of exactly
WHY it was I hate using M$ Word to do anything but
type a sentence or two.
After spending some time cleaning up monkey feces, I
aimed to load this thing to the sites. And I did. And
it sucked. I mean, why is it that I have to use Word,
again? You see, they STRIP the formatting anyways. So
you get text. Plain…. Text. So I did all that work so
that I could REFORMAT it again, so that it would look
semi-presentable in text-only. To their (slight)
credit, monster does do a better job with it than
careerbuilder, which is to say that they sucked
slightly less.
So the whole Microsuck Word thing was basically to
piss people off. Because they could have just
supported pdf and the formatting would be left alone,
and the text could still be searchable or whatever.
Maybe I should apply for CEO of these sites. Sheesh.
Peace.
I really
couldn’t come up with a proper ending here. And it
was already getting long. So this is it.
Peace.
